Aster ptarmicoides
Upland White Aster
This low-growing wildflower thrives on dry sandy soils forming mounds that are literally covered with white flowers in August and September. The silvery-white seedheads carry the show into the fall. This attractive plant will grow in the hottest, driest sandy soils, making it perfect for sandy hillsides, rock gardens and any place most other plants find hostile. Requires at least a half day of full sun, and never grows over two feet tall.
