White Ash

Large and fast growing shade tree with outstanding fall colors ranging from yellow to deep purple and maroon. The coloring depends on soil type and the individual genetics of the tree. It is one of the first trees to color in fall. The leaves are compound with five to nine leaflets. The bark is ash gray with furrows, which form diamond-shaped areas. Consult with an arborist before making tree choices as many diseases attack ash including a new Emerald Ash Borer. There are separate male and female trees. The female bears fruit. Wood baseball bats are made from the ash tree's close-grained wood.
