Carex bicknellii
Copper Oval Sedge
This perennial tussock-forming sedge can grow in slightly drier habitats than most sedges. It has silvery-brown to green flower spikes from May to June that grow up to 3 feet tall that contain brown fruit/seeds. Copper Oval Sedge grows in old fields, dry slopes, dry prairies, as well as wet river bottomland prairies. Although this species is drought-tolerant, the foliage may die back in hot dry summers.
