Penstemon grandiflora
Penstemon grandiflora
Common Name: Large-flowered Beardtongue
Lavender-blue bells hang like foxgloves on tall stems. This penstemon is truly statuesque with its tough blue-green foliage and hearty stalks of long, tubular flowers. Hummingbirds are attracted to the rich nectar; bumblebees totally disappear into these flowers! A native of our prairies that looks at home anywhere. Prefers sunny, well-drained to dry sites. In fact, penstemons will not do well if pampered with an amended soil.
