Liatris pycnostachya (Prairie Blazing Star)

In July and August, unbranched stalks bear dense spikes of magenta flowers on strong stems. The flowers, which are nectar rich, are a favorite of hummingbirds and butterflies while songbirds enjoy the seeds. Stunning in the landscape or in cut flower arrangements.
