Common Name: Pecan
The largest member of the hickory family, the Pecan is native to the rich, moist soils of the bottomlands, especially of the Mississippi Valley. The Pecan becomes a tall straight tree with a symmetrical, broadly oval growth habit. Trees begin bearing its fruit at about 20 years of age. The sweet edible nuts are favored by wildlife and people.
