Staphylea trifolia (Bladdernut)

A small tree for partially shaded areas. In spring, young leaves emerge with three bright green leaflets that turn dark green in the summer and pale yellow in fall. In the spring, the small tree produces many greenish-white, bell-shaped flowers on long chains. Fruit ripens in September into inflated balloons that can be popped in the hand. The tree forms large suckering colonies.
