Agropyron smithii (Western Wheatgrass)

Perennial grass with bluish colored stems and leaves. Leaf blades flat but rolled when dry, 1/8 to ΒΌ inch wide, 4 to 10 inches long, rather stiff, pointed at the tips, ridged and rough on upper surface; leaves rolled in the bud; ligules very short.

Home Owner Growing and Maintenance Tips:
Grows best in low areas of fine-textured alkaline soils where runoff water accumulates. Western wheatgrass is sod-forming, reproducing from rhizomes and seeds. Produces seed in the spring and goes dormant in mid-summer. It can grow again in the fall if there is adequate soil moisture.
