Crataegus viridis
Crataegus viridis
Common Name: Green Hawthorn
In mid-May, clusters of white flowers are followed by bright red berries in September on this thornless hawthorn, a landscape beauty. The medium-green foliage turns purple or scarlet in fall and the beautiful globe-shaped fruit lasts almost all winter. On older trunks the bark is exfoliated to expose an orange-brown inner bark. The hawthorn is the official state flower of Missouri.
