Common Name: Downy Hawthorn
An attractive, rounded to wide-spreading tree with nearly thornless branches. The branches and bark are gray and quite different from most hawthorns. Clusters of showy white 1" flowers bloom in late April or early May. One of the earliest hawthorns to flower. Hawthorn flowers are the the Missouri state flower. Blossoms are followed by showy, round, red fruits in late August to September which do not persist for long.
