Common Name: Joe Pye Weed
This summer standout is easily grown in average, medium moisture soils in full sun to part shade. Joe Pye naturally occur in low moist ground, in wet meadows and thickets and along stream margins. Plants prefer gardens with moist, rich soils. It is an erect, clump-forming perennial which typically grows tall with coarse dark green foliage. Clusters of tiny, vanilla-scented, dull pinkish-purple flowers are excellent butterfly attractants. Flowers give way to attractive seed heads which persist well into winter.
