Teucrium canadense
Teucrium canadense
Common Name: Germander
The unusual flowers of this species are quite showy and make the plant a garden-worthy native. A terminal spike, or corolla, of light pink to lavender tubular flowers are held on stiff stems up to 30 inches in height. Flying insects are attracted to the flowers; the large central lobe of the lower corolla lip serves as a landing platform for insects. The two purplish spots on the lobe help guide the insects to the flower.
