Penstemon grandiflora (Large-flowered Beardtongue)

Lavender-blue bells hang like foxgloves on tall stems. This penstemon is truly statuesque with its tough blue-green foliage and hearty stalks of long, tubular flowers. Hummingbirds are attracted to the rich nectar; bumblebees totally disappear into these flowers! A native of our prairies that looks at home anywhere. Prefers sunny, well-drained to dry sites. In fact, penstemons will not do well if pampered with an amended soil.

Additional Information:
Annual flower gardeners often think penstemons look like snapdragons and in fact they are related, having tubular flowers on a long stalk with leaves at the bottom.
